A PILGRIM OF HOPE

28.04.2025

Hello Friends, this is Sr. Florence CJ, an 83-year-old “pilgrim of hope” greeting you in the Jubilee Year. Born into a devout Catholic family in Kerala, I felt God’s call early on and joined the Congregation of Jesus at Allahabad and grew into a devout , hope-filled member with a deep sense of Mission. I recall two incidents that tested my hope at unexpected twists and turns along my pilgrim way to the fullness of life in Christ.

As a junior, I was almost dying of acute tuberculosis and typhoid; doctors gave up hope; my family and dear ones were informed and they came to be with me for the final goodbye. But unceasing prayer and care of my community, my Novice-mistress Mother Frederick, my own sisters – Patricia CJ, late Augustine CJ, kept fanning the flame of hope in me. Down in my heart I hoped to bounce back to complete my mission. And Jesus touched and healed me, though I had to spend 90 days with my family recuperating. Hope does not disappoint.

Then at the peak of my success as a music teacher in Patna, due to vocal cord paralysis I lost voice completely. What a blow it was to my ministry! Yet I held my hope to sing God’s praises again. I regained my voice; continued my ministry for decades as music teacher, community animator and headmistress of a Nursery school, spreading hope and joy all around.

Eighty- three years of my hope-filled heart is a testament to God’s faithfulness and merciful love.

Now I look forward to the future, trusting in God’s plan and guidance, eager to continue serving, loving, growing in faith, carrying the promise of a brighter tomorrow to share the joy of joining Christ in glory.
