Extended Leadership Meeting in Rome: Discerning as ONE new CJ

Rome
16.05.2026
From 4 to 14 May, our Provincial, Regional and General Leadership met in Rome for the first ELM as ONE congregation. It was an inspiring and blessed time of communal discernment and companionship.

The first ELM after our merger celebration in November was a great opportunity to have all the leaders from the Provinces and Regions and the General Leadership Team in one place to discern the future of our congregation together. At the beginning, we spent some time looking at the realities of our world and the challenges, the volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity of our political, economic and social environment that affect our missions.

David McCallum SJ and our facilitator Anjet van Linge led us in a deeper understanding of adaptive leadership (a model designed to navigate complexity and uncertainty by fostering collective wisdom and adaptability within teams and organisations.)

They then did a deep dive into the congregation’s realities and exchanged important questions for the future of the Congregatio Jesu. The meeting was characterised by spiritual conversations and reflection, honest self-examination and in-depth questioning. They looked at what religious formation for new members might look like, but also focused # on the question of how sisters can continue their professional development and how members take time to renew their personal relationship with God, each other and in the community.

A particularly important topic was safeguarding. We discussed the standardisation of our finances and our missions, and how we might shape this in the future – local, global or universal. The days were framed by morning Gospel sharing in small groups and closed with eucharist with F David.
