Loreto Rumbek is made up of a kindergarten, a primary school, a secondary school and a Primary Health Care Centre. A second mission is growing in Aweil.
Loreto is present in South Sudan since 2008, when the Irish Province established a mission in Rumbek, in the Maker Kuei community. This foundation was begun by four Sisters including Sr Orla Treacy who is now the Director of the Mission.
Initially the mission began a small school that has grown from a first class with only 25 girls to a current enrollment of almost 300 secondary school girls and a primary school with over 1000 students.

Women water newly formed concrete blocks to keep them from drying too quickly at the Loreto School in Rumbek, South Sudan. The school is run by the Institute for the Blessed Virgin Mary--the Loreto Sisters--of Ireland. The blocks are being used to construct new classrooms.

In Rumbek, South Sudan, members are engaged in both Primary and Secondary Education and they also provide internships for those who wish to do Teacher Training and develop other skills. The most recent development was the opening of a Healthcare Clinic which benefits the school population as well as the local people in Rumbek.
Currently, a second campus is growing in Aweil – intiated by former pupils. The first siters have already been missioned there.

We are an international multicultural congregation of around 1,800 sisters present in more than 40 countries around the globe. Founded in 1609 by the Venerable Mary Ward, we are a group of unenclosed apostolic religious women, rooted in the Ignatian Spirituality.
