Through Lent with Mary Ward

During Lent, we can reflect the "magis" in our lives and focus especially on Jesus.

Fasting can take many different forms. We can give up certain things, but above all, it is about becoming aware of whose call we are following and whose example we are observing in shaping our lives.

This year, we are journeying through Lent together with Mary Ward. Through her eyes, we look at the Lord. What our foundress experienced and learned more than 400 years ago during her spiritual exercises – and wrote down for us – serves to sharpen our focus. We allow ourselves to be inspired to seek God’s will and to practise following it again and again.

We allow ourselves to be inspired by the Venerable Mary Ward. We practice to follow her example and use these 40 days leading up to Easter to enter into conversation with God. Together with Mary Ward, we will look to Jesus and become newly aware of what the “magis” is in our lives – and where it wants to lead us today.

Some questions for our personal reflection:

  • Was it difficult for Mary Ward to make her own will completely free for God’s will and to want only what He wants?
  • How can we succeed in this task?
  • Who are the people at our side with whom we nurture this longing together?
  • What Mary Ward set out to do is quick and easy to read. But is it really that easy for us to let God guide us in all situations and circumstances?
