Our missions:

Pastoral

Pastoral work threads through all of our ministries, but some sisters also work in more formal pastoral settings, as permanent staff or volunteers.

Walking with God's people

The sisters of the Congregatio Jesu exercise pastoral ministry worldwide through spiritual accompaniment, retreat facilitation, and parish engagement.

Innovative approaches include: online spiritual direction reaching isolated individuals across continents; eco-spirituality programmes connecting faith with environmental stewardship; and intergenerational faith-sharing circles that bridge age divides within communities.

These initiatives honour Mary Ward’s legacy whilst responding to contemporary spiritual needs, creating sacred spaces where seekers encounter God’s presence through personalised guidance, creative prayer experiences, and inclusive community dialogue.

Here are some examples from the daily practice:

  • managing pastoral centres;
  • work in the parish in caring for the needs of parishes without a priest,  support in the running of the parish;
  • running training courses for discernment and spiritual accompaniment;
  • providing spiritual accompaniment;
  • involvement in chaplaincy work;
  • youth pastoral;
  • prison pastoral;
  • training of catechists, running catechism classes and preparation for the sacraments;
  • assisting in the administration of dioceses;
  • organizing pilgrimages and days of prayer;
  • prayer guidance;
  • telephone and online chaplaincy;
  • bible study and prayer groups;
  • care of the dying
  • ….

In many cases our sisters are employed full time by the Church, others provide pastoral care as part of another ministry such as teaching, or have been trained in the pastoral field for part time work as a ‘third age’ ministry.
