Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has died

Pope Benedict XVI has returned to the House of the Father. The Vatican Press Office announced that he died a few minutes ago at 9.34 a.m. at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery residence in Rome, which the 95-year-old Pope Emeritus had chosen as his residence after renouncing the Petrine ministry in 2013.
From the morning of Monday, 2 January 2023, the body of the Pope Emeritus will be in St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican for the farewell.
