Waiting is something we don’t do very well in today’s instant world. Four weeks of waiting is not only a long wait it is also a complicated one. How can we wait for something that has already happened in the past, as well as for something that is yet to come? God shows us how by reminding us that our salvation – our healing, our being forgiving, our recognizing we are loved, are part of his eternal, everyday story, of wanting to be with us. All we have to do is recognise him as the God who takes pleasure in breaking into our lives today, and yesterday and tomorrow and especially in our waiting.
As the poet R.S.Thomas writes: ‘the meaning is in the waiting’.
