Sunflowers from Australia in solidarity with our Sisters in Ukraine

Featured Image

Mary Ward students across Australia have been very mindful of, and worried about, about our friends in Ukraine and surrounding countries.  At Loreto College Marryatville in Adelaide, South Australia, students joined Pope Francis’ call for special prayers on Ash Wednesday and Year 3s produced beautiful sunflowers in solidarity with our Mary Ward Sisters in Ukraine and surrounding countries.  Please accept these beautiful images with the deep awareness of what is happening so far away from our land and our felt knowledge that we are one.  We are united in sadness and solidarity, prayer and promise.  We also love that sunflowers are a symbol of the resurrection and anticipate, with hope, the triumph of peace over war, love over hate, and life over death.

Venerable Mary Ward, pray for us and give us your spirit

or as our students sometimes say:

Vulnerable Mary Ward, pray for us and give us your spirit.

St Michael, patron saint of Kyiv, and protector of Mary Ward’s friends, pray for us.
