30 July: Teamwork

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. (1 Cor 15,10)

We don’t have to do it alone. But our co-operation is needed.

(…) I suddenly understood with light and certainty that I was to labour thus some little time, but that after that short space God would give me what now I sought, without my labour..

Mary Ward: Spiritual Notes 1619

With regard to God our Lord, on whom I should keep my eyes in all things according to His will, I consider it wrong to trust and hope in any means and efforts alone. Furthermore, since I do not consider it a safe way to leave everything to trust in God without making use of the means he has given me, it seems to me in our Lord that I should make full use of both, seeking in everything his greater glory and glorification and nothing else.

St. Ignatius to Francisco de Borja on 17 September 1555

We pray:

  • That we will work well in God’s service.
  • For all those who are responsible for others in large or small ways.
